I know very little of GGs's pastimes past 1980. Sometimes people allude, but there are few writeups. Bhagavata prabhu has done some. I wrote a small book on the early GGS pastimes, some presented at the samadhi installation in 1997. But the computer was stolen, and I must re-write. Do you have any time to put one or two, or better a series, of stories of this and similar type, into the Srila Prabhupada's ISKCON site, please, or possibly share via this sanga space site? It is nicer when you post yourself, as opposed to me posting it by cut and paste etc.

We have an offering:
Through four years of severe austerities and distribution of the Holy Name via our records and stage performances from coast to coast, Whisper and I have found that the inhabitants of Ithaca, New York are thirsty for the sri Krishna Sankirtan. So much so, that after two years of finishing our tour here, we had been invited to host a regular kirtan at the Ahimsa Yoga studio, invited again to commence the program over the winter this third year. After three years, have been blessed with a beautiful house that we offer as an ashram to Srila Gurudeva, the deity of lord Chaitanya and the Radha-Syamasudara stone.
Our consistency has attracted a third aspiring Vaishnava, named Buffalo-Turtle-Snowflake Jim who has begged me to read the Bhagavad-Gita As It Is to Him. During the Third chapter we were blessed with a house to care for the deities and maintain a regular sadhana-bhakti yoga program in.
This acquisition was not an easy task but rather than maintain a false sense of proprietorship, Whisper, Jim and I would like to offer this ashrama to srila Gurudeva and his Vaishnavas as a sanctuary and outpost for the teachings of srila Gurudeva and the Vaishnava Acharyas.
You can consider this an invitation to come and discipline us, for we are merely chanting fools with no real knowledge of Chaitanya Chritamrita or Srimad Bhagavatam. We chant from the fire set in my heart by young Dwarakadisha Das Kamhout and Jagad Guru Siddhaswarupananda and are requesting bhjana siksa and training in the Vaishnava way.
We will maintain this ashram to the best standards as shown to me by Jagad Guru's disciples and pray for visits from his and srila Gurudeva's messengers.
Please consider our four years of distance from any Vaishnava community, how we long for Vaishnava association and and how difficult it is to maintain integrity in the separation from sri Guru and his disciples.

I just saw your message; it was posted on my 'blog' page on sanga-space and I only saw it because I was sending Sadananda prabhu an email just now and needed to copy the letter I sent to Brajanath prabhu concerning my idea for Gurudeva's 'Vaisnava Community Project'. I see that you were letting me know of some prabhu who I might be able to help; I don't know what is needed, but if you would like to read the letter I sent to Brajanath prabhu, it contains my plans to help ALL devotees:

I have been speaking with a devotee, who was a disciple of Srila Prabhupada for over 26 years, recently, about an idea we have for establishing a proper community in the U.S. for Srila Gurudeva.
Step one: Find an Indian doctor who will open a 'mental health clinic' in an area deemed appropriate by Gurudeva...
Step two: Legitimately 'memorialize' the property to a Vaisnava who has passed from this life (this provides certain tax liens and property advantages)...
Step three: Start a program at the clinic for 'mental health' which provides ayurvedic therapy surrounded around Tulasi (which in essence is our 'medicine' in Bhakti yoga and is actually a form of BASIL and derives from a medicinal plant species similar to, but does not contain intoxicating elements of, marijuana; hence we could actually get permission from the U.S. government to prescribe 'Holy Basil' to anyone who suffers from any of the same health problems that allow people to use medical marijuana legally)...
Step four: Anyone who can be established to be suffering from any of these symptoms can get a 'diagnosis' from the Indian doctor at this clinic and recieve government money, just like I am, which Gurudeva said was legitimate for a vaisnava with a condition like mine (manic/depression), which in essence one could legitimately say EVERYONE who is attracted to bhakti yoga suffers from also!
Step five: Along with the 'clinic/hospital' Gurudeva could also get grants for housing in the surrounding area to house all the 'patients', which falls under the same program criteria which I am living in where the government pays 70% of my rent and I only pay 30% which is from my DISABILITY money I recieve from the government every month. This is called a 'Shelter Plus Care Program'. Isn't this what Gurudeva is providing us with? 'Shelter plus care'? The man who owns the building that I live in, in this program, simply got a license from the government to provide housing to 'mentally disabled' people and has this ability to recieve money from the government to pay the majority of our rent to him...
Step six: A community similar to Vatican City, which is owned by the Catholics in Rome, could exist for Vaisnavas in this way. We could also provide services similar to Scientology which is a billion dollar industry simply on selling their books; and Gurudeva's books are much more valuable than those, aren't they?....
Step seven: We could also provide in our new community a Vaisnava cooking school which people could get federal grant money to enroll in, along with a Bhakti yoga school also. The housing I described before would fall under this criteria as 'dormatory', or in other words ashram...
Step eight: We could also have in this community stores for other devotees to do seva in, such as what Gurudeva had at the Rose avenue temple downstairs, to sell all types of vaisnava goods...
I have personal experience in ALL of the topics I have brought to your attention above. I believe that the devotees could actually achieve this type of community in America; this is being done on a small scale in the New Dwarka community for ISKON on Watseka avenue, but I think that we could do all the things I described and truly flourish as a Gaudiya Vaisnava community. I envision an Indian-hospital/clinic-commune-ashram-tourist attraction-school-restaurant situation that would truly offer Gurudeva the ability to reach millions in America.
-- I am recieving almost $900 a month from the governmen for a diagnosis of 'manic/depression' and have a nice aparment which I only pay $260 a month for (which is government money anyway).
--I have gotten a federal grant to go to a small school that one man opened simply by going to a bank and applying for a very small loan to buy an old Ramada Inn hotel and turned it into a 'dormitory' with three bunk-beds in each room. The two couses he offered were 'Travel and tourism' and 'Culinary', which he actually got from a tv offer and simply got accreditation to distribute and profit from! We could do the same with Bhakti yoga and vaisnava cooking.
--I have gone to a medical marijuana clinic (simply out of curiousity) and seen with my own eyes how the system works, and it would definately work for Holy Basil. All glories to Tulasi (I do not mean to imply ANY mundane references).
--I also recently got $11,000.00 REMOVED from my outstanding credit simply by having my psychiatrist sign a 'Loan Discharge Application'.
--I am also recieving about $10,000.00 from the government in the next 30 days for 'back pay' dating back to the date I was declared 'disabled'.
--I also only pay $6.00 a month for my home telephone service.
Prabhus, these are the types of things that I am recieving that I think ALL devotees could also recieve, legitimately. If I can do it, why not everyone else? All we need is an Indian psychiatrist who is sympathetic to devotees and we could establish an ashram for ALL americans (and anyone) who is interested in Bhakti yoga. We could have so much to offer in Gurudeva's service, simply by doing this.

Dandavats Avadhoot Maharaja, it's so nice to hear about your preaching in Houston and the wonderful congregation you have there. Here in Rio de Janeiro we receive the visit of Srila Gurudeva's Sannyasis three times a year and get enlivened with the nectar of Hari Katha and lively kirtans. Sripad Vana Maharaja will be here for the celebration of Srila Gurudeva's appearance day.
