A Calling to Devotees Worldwide to Join Srila Gurudeva's Book Publication Team!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT AND INVITATION TO ALL DEVOTEES OF SRILA BHAKTIVEDANTA NARAYANA GOSWAMI MAHARAJA

Dear devotees in the worldwide sanga of Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Goswami Maharaja,
Please accept my most humble dandavat pranamas. All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga! All glories to Sri Sri Radha-Vinodebiharijiu!

It is with great pleasure that I take this opportunity to bring to your attention a wonderful opportunity now being made available for you to personally engage in a very intimate service (manobhishta seva) to the lotus feet of our beloved Srila Gurudeva.

Srila Gurudeva was asked the question by Yasodanandana prabhu from England, “How important is book publishing to your mission?” to which Srila Gurudeva immediately replied, raising his index finger in the air, “It is first, FIRST”.

So it is with great happiness that we are announcing a golden opportunity to be engaged in such service to Srila Gurudeva in the form of two very important literary projects, the Brihad Bhagavatamrta Project and the Conversations Project.

Over four years ago, Srila Gurudeva completed His translation of Srila Sanatana Goswami’s Brhad Bhagavatamrta into Hindi. At that time he engaged a few devotees in translating His work into English and in editing. He expected that these books would soon come out in English nicely printed in a three volume set with beautiful layout and artwork. Unfortunately, due to various reasons the devotees working on the project have met delays and have not been able to bring the books to print. Srila Gurudeva does not want it to be delayed any further. He wants His books to be produced and printed quickly and efficiently for the benefit of all the devotees and all the people of the world.

In Nabadwipa dhama this year he ordered me (B.V. Padmanabha Swami) to become involved in the editing and production of the three volumes of His work so that they will be published and printed by Karttika 2009 and Gaura purnima 2010.

Also in Odessa, Ukraine festival of 2008, Srila Gurudeva ordered me to make books from all of his recorded morning walk conversations in English, and his various other darshans and room conversations which date back to 1991.

These two book production projects are of immense scope and importance, and each of them requires a team of dedicated devotees to accomplish all the necessary phases of book production.

Back in 1975, Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada ordered His disciples on the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT) to produce seventeen volumes of His Caitanya Caritamrta and Srimad Bhagavatam in only two months. To accomplish this, a couple of dozen devotees came together from all over the U.S. and other countries, and gathered in Los Angeles to participate in the marathon which is now legendary.

They formed a team of devotees working in shifts around the clock on all phases of the production process i.e. editing, proofreading, layout, typesetting, painting of art, etc. I was personally involved for those two months as a layout artist as was Srimati Syamarani didi as one of the chief artists of paintings. The atmosphere was electrifying, and the whole temple of 250 devotees was surcharged with incredible enthusiasm seeing the books coming from the printer weekly and being offered on the altar to the lotus feet of Sri Sri Radha Krsna.

In those days the communication facilities and technology we now have were not available, such as personal computers, internet and internet free calling, cheap clear telephone calling worldwide and even conference calling with video! Such modern technological facilities have made it possible to have a virtual publishing house connecting up dozens of devotees via the internet from their homes.

Now, in pursuance of Srila Gurudeva’s order that we should produce His books “quickly and without mistakes”, we have assembled a team of devotees to make this possible. Our core team is made up of devotees who have experience in editing, and the various aspects of publishing.

Our initial aim is to set up a worldwide network of devotees who are working in their own homes and locations. To facilitate this we have set up a system to make it possible to engage dozens of devotees simultaneously in various publication tasks. So, just imagine, you are a busy housewife with children and most of your day is taken up in the routine of household chores. But there is that special time in the day or in the week when you can sit down and do this very intimate Guru seva.

We are beginning our drive to locate devotees who are capable, experienced or inclined to use their talent and energies in various publication tasks...

Devotees are needed to perform the various stages of book production from transcribing of conversations or translation of Hindi into English, first, second and third level editing and fidelity checking, proofreading, etc. In addition to these editorial tasks, the physical appearance of the book requires devotees experienced or possessing talent in drawing, sketching, painting, audio-visual computer technologies, design and layout. We are also looking for devotees with management skills.

At this point you may be asking the question, “This sounds great. I’m excited! How can I join and be engaged in this wonderful service opportunity?” The answer is very simple. Please download the files, answer the questions and send it back to us at the email addresses provided. We need you to contact us immediately so that we can send to you by email a package which will contain a number of files to give you the necessary information. You can also phone us at the number provided and speak to us personally about your desire to participate.

Srila Gurudeva needs his disciples to help fulfill His heart’s desire to have his books which He works so hard to write, produced and printed.

We are starting a recruiting drive and asking devotees to step forward and volunteer their time, energy, skills and abilities.
