The Devotees' own Myspace ~ A Krsna Conscious Social Network ~ Connecting Devotees Around the World!

Hi,

My name is Miriam Anderson and i'm very new here i don't know anything about this religion, but what make this religion so different than all the other.

Is this like the scientology church, is it a sekt or is it like islam or christianity maybe catholic, i'm latin so my parents are catholic i'm not because i'm working at a bar as a waitress not nice job for a girl i know. But what kind of job do you have to do to be in your religion. Are there some rules and can you have relations with others like boyfriends or is it not allowed. Someone told me who gave me this book that you can't have boyfriends unless you marry. Please can someone explain.

Thank you,

yrs

Miriam

In the Vedic culture one can make sex only in matrimony. Man with women. But if one chant the name, these things will go out of their minds.

hari bol. I think that you are a inteligent, so you will understand all about God. What Gita Dasi said is very good. The diference between Vaishnavism and other religion is very simple to understand. Maome is the profet of God. Jesus Crist is the son of God, but Krsna is directly God,and your instructions ,principaly in Bhagavad Gita have to be our proper conduct. The devotes have many and many diferents jobs. The type of job is not the principal thing.You can be working, but internally you can meditate in Krsna, who live in our hearts also. You are afortunate soul, this is the site of the chief of all religions, our spiritual master, the guru of milenium, He is a transcendental personality, your name is Sri Srimad Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaj, and he travel to all the world distributing the pure love for all falling persons, witout disting caste ,color, etc. You have to know Guruji. You see your many photos here? Hare Krsna. your friend b.d

Another thing is that if someone wants to be a surgeon he will naturally accept some things as favorable and others as unfavorable. Probably he will put time into his studies, not go out partying much, and he'll tend to make friends with others with the same goal as he has. It's the same thing if someone wants to know and love God. Nothing forced.

Hello Miriam,

In one of our main scriptures, "Jaiva Dharma", your first question is addressed. We often use original sanskrit words that aren't easily translatable, but in parenthesis I have used words which give a general idea if these terms:

"There is no dharma (religion) other than vaisnava-dharma (religion of pure love for a Personal God). All other dharmas (religions) that are or ever will be propagated in the world are either steps on the staircase of vaisnava-dharma (religion of pure love for a Personal God), or else distortions of it. Those dharmas (religions) that are steps leading to bhakti (unbroken love which gives pleasure to God, and is not mixed with intellectual knowledge aimed at salvation or worldly piety) should be respected in proportion to their degree of purity. One should not bear any malice toward the followers of other religions. "

Nice to meet you on here!

I personally wouldn't worry so much about the boyfriend thing.. there's no point giving up things artificially. Develop your understanding and just allow things to gradually happen naturally... I think that's the best bet.
Having said that though, having boyfriends and stuff that are averse to your inspiration (and maybe even meat etc) wont be helpful for you, and if you are interested in developing your understanding and such, then such a type of boyfriend will almost definitely become to be like a burden in your life and not a help!

Hi Miriam,
You might want to click the "Books" Tab above and you can download some of Gurudeva's books for free.
Some interesting books for beginners might be:
"The Way of Love";
"The Essence of the Bhagavad Gita";
"Happiness in a Fool's Paradise";
"Venu Gita".
