About Me:
As a teenager in the late 70's, I became interested in philosophy, and studied the spiritual philosophy of Nobel prize winning French philosopher Henri Bergson for many years under the guidance of my father. In the 80's and early 90's, I completed my material scientific education, culminating in a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I never felt any personal satisfaction from these scientific endeavors, and continued my pursuit of Spirit through the books of Bergson. In 1999, I experienced a sudden inspiration to look towards personality and emotions, although I didn't yet know how to go about doing that. In the meantime, over the next few years I studied the works of various philosophers and transcendentalists, such as Gary Zukav, Ken Wilber, Andrew Cohen, and Ramana Maharisi. And in 2003, just as I was falling into the impersonalist trap of "I'm God, you're God, we're all God", I was fortunate enough to receive the association of a devotee. A co-worker who knew I was interested in spirituality (interestingly, her name is Prema - she's of Indian descent but not a devotee) told me I should meet with another co-worker; she knew this other co-worker had some spiritual interest although she didn't know exactly what. Turns out he was a diksa disciple of Srila Gurudeva, and I am forever in his debt for introducing me to Krsna Consciousness and leading me to the lotus feet of Gurudeva. I received Harinama from Srila Gurudeva by telephone at the North Carolina Festival in 2004; although Gurudeva was not able to physically attend that festival due to medical issues, we certainly felt his presence, and I am grateful for the wonderful association of so many Vaisnavas and Vaisnavis. So much thanks to those devotees who have provided internet access to Srila Gurudeva's lectures and festivals all around the world, so that fallen and offensive persons like myself who have not acquired sufficient sukrti for personal association can still share in the mercy of Gurudeva and the Vaisnavas.

"For one who has had the chance to acquire a taste and become attracted to talks of Me, My activity and My movement, no other temptation can any longer hold him under its power. He becomes indifferent to all other activity. The outcome is that he can understand within that all other things bear some unpleasant reaction. Yet, although he can conceive that they are all pain-pro… Continue

Haribol Kesava Prabhu, I've just read your profile. Fascinating. I am working on a program called Vedic Post-materialism, part of which is showing how the various spiritual paths fit into the vedic picture. You could make a great contribution there. It would be best if we could write via e-mail, because I rarely get the opportunity to log onto sites like this. My address is bvnemi "at" gmail.com. Drop me a line.

PARAMATMA SAYS...YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN SENSE GRATIFICATION...

Shortly before meeting a devotee for the first time and being introduced to Krishna Consciousness, Paramatma helped steer me in the right direction in a noticable way 2 times. I mentioned the first time briefly in my profile - after I had been studying impersonal philosophy for some time, all of a sudden I got an intuition to look in the direction of personality and emotions. The second time helped me to realize how much time and energy I was wasting on sense gratification. One time while so engaged, all of a sudden I heard that "voice" say, "You know, I could entertain you like this forever, for all eternity, if that's what you want...but is that all you want? You know, you could do better..." Talk about a kick in the head - I was stunned by that thought - what could the voice mean? Something better than bodily sense gratification? But what?...where?...how...? Paramatma left me hanging for a little while, but not long after that I met a devotee and got my answers. The first book that devotee gave me was Bhakti Tirtha Swami's "Spiritual Warrior II - Turning Lust into Love", and reading that immediately changed my life. Looking back, I think this is a wonderful example of how Sri Guru helps guide one both internally as Paramatma, and externally as the Spiritual Master.

Haribol!!!!!!!

DON'T BE A GRINCH

Several years ago I had a dream involving Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja Prabhupada. In the dream, Srila Prabhupada was sitting on the floor in the middle of a room, and I was sitting facing him. In a very grave manner, he said to me, "You must give up the 'grinch' mentality". What is the meaning? I think he was refering to the Dr. Zeuss story "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" where the very envious creature called the "grinch" tries to ruin Christmas for the townspeople, but when their faith is not deterred by his selfish act, his heart, which had previously been "two sizes too small", grew three sizes and he was transformed into a caring person and accepted by the townspeople. I guess we would say "his heart melted". I've read most of Srila Prabhupada's books and don't remember him ever making reference to the "grinch" (the Zeuss story came out in 1966), but in light of the story the instruction in the dream makes perfect sense. So hopefully by the mercy of Guru and Vaisnavas some day my envy will go away, my heart will melt, and I will understand something about bhakti!

SRILA GURUDEVA KNOWS...
I've been gradually reading Caitanya Caritamrta for over a year, and now am in the Antya-lila, getting near the end. About 2 weeks ago I began reading Chapter 5, entitled "How Pradyumna Misra Received Instructions from Ramananda Raya". Then about a day or so later, after I'd partially read that chapter, I checked out the Purebhakti.tv website (which I pretty much do daily) and saw that the newly featured archive video (with prominent display at the top of the web page) was of Gurudeva giving a lecture on...Pradyumna Misra getting instructions from Ramananda Raya. I immediately thought "Wow, this sure is good timing!", and as I watched the video, with great satisfaction I thought how nice it was to read about this pastime from the book bhagavata, and then to see it come to life from the lips of the person bhagavata, our Srila Gurudeva. After thinking about this interesting "coincidence", I e-mailed Isa Prabhu to see what inspired him to feature that particular video at that particular time on his website, considering that there are hundreds of archived lectures of Srila Gurudeva on so many different spiritual topics. Isa Prabhu's sweet reply says it all: "It had nothing to do with me, Srila Gurudeva inspired my hand to put it up, knowing you would be reading it".
