This is an interesting anecdote from upanishads.
When the universe was created, the human beings (manava), the devatas (residents of upper planetary systems) and the danavas (demonic natured residents of lower planets) all went to seek guidance from Brahma, the creator of the material universe.
When the three groups, human beings, the devatas and the demons reached the seat of Brahma, Brahma was in deep samadhi (trance). All three groups sought guidance from him.

We have attended the Harikatha by Srila Guru Maharaj-His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaj on the holy occassion of Pakshavardhini Mahadvadashi via Internet.Srila Gurudev said : -
Today,there is auspicious day,that is,Ekadasi and more auspicious than Ekadasi is Mahadvadashi and the main purpose of this day is to serve and satisfy Krsna.He explained us about the life of great devotees-Ambrisha Maharaja and Prahlad Maharaja from Srimad Bhagavatam.He said that the curse of Durvasa Rishi didn't touch Ambrisha Maharaja because he serves Supreme Lord lovingly and don't considered the wealth of whole earth important.He understood that this material wealth is not mine though he is the king of the whole world but he consider Supreme Lord as the owner of all the things.He was the autocrat king of the whole world but he has no attachment with this world. Why ?..........
Because he know that if he'll attach to this material wealth,he'll go to hell,he knows this fact.
How he don't have any attachment with this material world?
Guru Maharaj said that the principal cause of attachment is our own mind and Ambrisha Maharaja has engaged his mind in the lotus feet of Supreme Lord.
"A sinner cannot be sanctified by Karma".He can only be sanctified by surrendering to Krsna.Our sins cannot be finished,it can only be possible in the association of a pure,surrendered soul and it is very very difficult to get a pure devotee.
If we have to engage our mind in the lotus feet of Suprerme Lord,we have to surrender ourself to a pure devotee,serve him.Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said,"Surrender yourself to pure devotees and they'll give you Krsna's grace."Take shelter to Guru,He is the personal associate of Supreme Lord but this is also not so easy.
Supreme Lord says in Srimad Bhagavatam that "My devotees are very dear to me,i'm under my devotees."
