This is the first time I ever saw Srila Gurudev, I took Him a picture and carry it wherever I go to remind myself of that magical moment, of every emotion and every tear, how He came into my life and changed everything with one glance, I still remember when He said: "I have come here to write with golden letters in your heart..." We all have our stories, how it all began, I felt that I could tell you about mine, so here it is: I remember when I used to be with my friends on mountain tops somewhere around the Central Valley, watching stars, dancing until dawn, talking about our future and asking ourselves if there was "something else", a meaning to all the Universe, to our existence. We were sure there was one, but we hadnt found it at the time. Then one day, walking in Old Havana I found myself attracted to the Cathedral, it was the first time I entered it. The altar was filled with small and used candles, you could almost feel the humbleness of the people, their prayers in that dark and sacred space. I think I saw for the first time Faith, and I new there was something missing in my life: God. In that moment I promised myself to find Him/Her as I wondered those familiar streets in tears.
Some months later, during a Meditation Seminar in SFO I turned 21, ( a crazy day were I confronted many old ghosts and old patterns) it was the last day and knowing that I was starting a new 7-year-cycle in my life I prayed for the first time to God:" Please let me find You, I dont care where You are, how You are or what I have to do, if I need to go to Africa, to the Amazon jungle, to any desert, to live in the Wild, just let me find You".
When I returned to C.R. I met the devotees and a year later I met my dear Srila Gurudev and I knew that every single event in my life had leaded me to that unique moment. I then understood my life, my family history, exiles and charity work, everything became clear. My friend Asilia told me something in those days: "Our parents tried to change the world through politics, but in our time we will change the world through Spirituality, this is real revolution".
I dont know if I'll ever be a devotee, I just pray that Srila Gurudev lets me serve Him and Krsna's most precious jewels: the Vaishnavas.
