ABOUT ME...

Yes, this is me in front of Srila Gurudeva....

A little about myself...
I like to chant the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra and I am especially interested in philosophy.
I like books from any math and devotees from any background.
However, Srila Gurudeva, Srila Paramgurudeva and Srila B.R.Sridhara Maharaja are my favorite writers.
Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja I especially like for his lectures and his beautiful singing (I love his purports to the bhajans!)

I am married with my dear friend Aparna Devi Dasi.
I came in contact with Krishna Consciousness in 1995/1996 and spent about 10 years in devotees communities (ashrama's), of which 9 years as a saffron brahmacari and 1 full year as a married devotee.
My main services were preaching activities like bookdistribution, schoolprograms, training new devotees, taking care of guests etc. Besides that I did a lot of Deity worship and cooking.
Since 2006 Aparna and I are living on our own. At present my main services are chanting and reading.
Besides that I am trying to preach to the Dutch speaking audience through my website: http://gaudiyavedantanederland.blogspot.com
Whenever I can, I try to have contact with devotees.
My desire is to -in whatever tiny way my insignificant self is qualified- to help Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga in Their preaching mission.

Astanga-yoga, a mechanical meditative practice, controls the mind and senses and focuses concentration on the Paramatma (the Supersoul, the form of the Lord situated in the heart). This practice culminates in samadhi, full consciousness of the Supreme.

For him who has conquered the mind, the mind is the best of friends; but for one who has failed to do so, his mind will remain the greatest enemy.

PURPORT

The purpose of practicing eightfold yoga is to control the mind in order to make it a friend in discharging the human mission. Unless the mind is controlled, the practice of yoga (for show) is simply a waste of time. One who cannot control his mind lives always with the greatest enemy, and thus his life and its mission are spoiled. The constitutional position of the living entity is to carry out the order of the superior. As long as one’s mind remains an unconquered enemy, one has to serve the dictations of lust, anger, avarice, illusion, etc. But when the mind is conquered, one voluntarily agrees to abide by the dictation of the Personality of Godhead, who is situated within the heart of everyone as Paramatma. Real yoga practice entails meeting the Paramatma within the heart and then following His dictation. For one who takes to Krsna consciousness directly, perfect surrender to the dictation of the Lord follows automatically. B.G. 6.6

Dank je voor de felicitaties, daarmee help je mij namelijk weer herinneren aan het moment van initiatie, en daar maak je me dan weer heel blij mee. Ik zou graag willen zeggen dat ik me je ook nog kan herinneren, maar met als enige referentie deze twee foto's kan ik me jammer genoeg net geen beeld vormen van je. Maar het is inderdaad niet ondenkbaar dat we met elkaar gesproken hebben in België of Nederland. Ik ben in ieder geval ook van plan om naar Italië te gaan in juni, dus wie weet zien en spreken we elkaar daar.
