I understand that when sadhu honors prasadam, his remnants are very spiritually potent maha-prasada. But is it true that if a neophyte or non-devotee, touches prasadam, that prasadam gives bad effects? How can this be possible if prasadam doesn't get contaminated?

You have answered your own question. If prasadam when touched by a neophyte were to give bad results then it doesn't deserve to be called prasada (the Lord's mercy). Secondly, how could we benefit from taking prasada if when we touch it we contaminate it as we eat it.....

Gauramadhava prabhu, your last sentence is an esp. amusing point;) I posted this because I was at the math, and two devotees there were saying that a devotee there had recently drank a cup of juice leftover by someone from the Sunday Feast, and got ghostly haunted. They also said the reason sannyasis are served separately, from other devotees is that if the serving spoon accidently touches someone's plate, everyone else gets that person's remnants.

Later I read that Gopa-kumara left Kerala, because no one would eat maha-prasada which had been touched by a person of lower caste in that kingdom.
